Today Its Flow;
Tomorrow Its Ebb

A chap once said he felt sorry for ants and other physically small creatures since their view of life was confined so close to the ground as to miss much of the visual splendors of this world, but he is misguided: the sight of all creatures (be it by eyes,
or other means) is directly related to their size and needs; they are constructed and programmed to see that which is necessary for their continued contribution to Life’s unceasing struggle to survive and grow.
There is something the certain-man can take from this fact: he can struggle to make
his self larger so that he would then see things appropriate to a bigger being
(which after all, is the aim of all this).

What matters is not the creature’s size   –  but the size of his inner eyes/I’s.

Ordinary minds see a difference between entertainment and information;
not so the man trying to solve-the-case.

Except for those things that happened suddenly: everything else happens so gradually that one day you’re suddenly and abruptly aware of it.

Just as no one is bothered by death, only by thinking about it (note that after a four thousand year history of verbal man dying, not one person who has died has ever had a bad word
to say about it) so too is no one bothered by being asleep & living in a dream,
only by thinking about it  --  when they remember it  --  after having once heard about the idea  --  and taking it seriously.
The simple-sounding, after-the-fact fact is that none of man's uniquely human problems bother him  --  unless he thinks about them.
    "But death is a real occurrence --  not simply a thought!"
And that changes what was said, how?

It’s good to have little garbage.

Every conscious act makes room for itself.
(Believe it: there are quite enough vacuums to go around for everybody.)

Where knowledge is needed, force is of no value, but when force is called for,
don’t try to chop wood with a philosopher's glare.

The best response to trying times is always silence.

The more improbable the notion the more exotic will be the language in which
it is presented.                                (Doesn’t Shangri La sound more alluring than Brooklyn.)

What might life be if there were no such words as but, and although.

Time may cure all ills  –  but you can’t outlive the clock.

A whole lot of little can make a lot,

                                               but a whole lot of nothing cannot.

There is a hormonal basis for so-called love which neurons can never predict, explain, or comprehend; so in its honor they compose poetry and country songs
(and sometimes change the terminology and make it sound like adoration of a god).

When streams cross precise water analysis eludes all but a few.

That which begins in anger will never finish in Tahiti.

Men created archeology for the same reason they enjoy their memory:
it’s easy manipulation.

When you’re explaining what you’re doing, you’re no longer doing it.

Ordinary knowledge is like specific maps of very limited locations
(like of a one block neighborhood in a particular city), while the info needed by the special-investigator trying to crack-the-case is like an unrestricted survey of all paths and places where human neurons congregate.

As understood and practiced by ordinary minds: creative and critical thought
are not the same thing.

How Mind Works.
When a famous television news anchor announced that after thirty years on the air, he was leaving, much public regret was proclaimed, but one letter to the star stood out:
“I have been watching you deliver the nightly world news since I was a child, and your intelligent demeanor and comforting, professional manner have been a notable, stabilizing influence in my life not to mention a source of much important information;
I cannot accept the fact that you are going; I begin to tremble when I think of turning on the tv and not seeing your familiar face and hearing your authoritative voice;
your departure has resulted literally in a most significant loss to my life.
(P.S. I really like your replacement  –  he’s neat.)
Sincerely Yours,” etc.

Jejune organizations who have been told by their predecessors that they possess “secrets,” then in turn present to the contemporary public, that impression  –
even though they themselves do not know what the secrets specifically are.
(This is why ritual is so preeminent with such groups.
[If the operetta sucks, spend the evening playing the Overture]).

As opposed to routine citizens and their celebratory schedules,
one man feels the stress-of-holidays, every day, since he
(being one dedicated to cracking-the-case) wakes up to find every day a holiday.

No matter how healthy or awake he felt, one man finally realized he was not without some justification in saying to his hormones: “You still could have done more.”
When this idea first hit him, he thought it unwarranted   –

but the more he considered it……

When one rebel would be feeling unusually alive and awake (and was alone  –
a situation that seemed to commonly coincide with the first) his face would often
break into a maniacal grin like a child's might  --  the full meaning of the display,
not grasped even by his own best neurons               (but, gawd! did it always feel right!)

Reporting this story made another chap wonder what is (if any) the connection
between the moments when you come out of your normal dreamy state of consciousness and suddenly see and understand something that is going on in an explanatory way never before realized,  and being physically alone?
Is there, he mused, something about being in the company of other people that makes peeling your consciousness away from the natural mechanical thinking that passes through you, more difficult?

There is a vertical future and a horizontal one: the former representing Life's growth, mentally & personally, and the latter, man’s expansion of civilization & technology,
and you can do some forecasting in the horizontal realm by:
picturing the present conditions; then speeding them up and expanding them
in all possible directions simultaneously.
(Note however: this does require the abnormal ability to objectively picture present conditions.)

Life will try anything once.

Insight At The Edge Of The Wilderness.
Violence is not violence until human tongues speak the word.
Of the 3 Forces that support Life, the D (informally labeled: Destructive)
is as important as the others (C: Constructive & E: Errelevant) and not understanding
this collective, hormonal reality in your own personal neurons will leave you
eternally shuffling around in the interior dark with the rest of the restless herd.

Perhaps: At The Outskirts Of Civilized Consciousness.
To an ordinary man it is trying enough to be faced with a problem for which there seems to be only two possible reactions, but to suddenly be in a room with twelve
or forty two doors is overwhelming:
perhaps in such circumstances the best course would be to leap out a window.   Perhaps.
(And in a story clearly unrelated to the previous two: One man’s favorite private saying to his self is: “Enough is enough and anything is better than a knife to the spleen.”)

There is no advancement without transgression.

Another chap offers this: “Never trust a guy who is always polite to you
no matter how stupid may be the ideas you express  –  he may know something!  --
definitely more than you.                                                                              I’m telling’ ya.”

Part of ordinary consciousness’ myopia lies in its difficulty to perceive natural outlines: ones not drawn by human words.
Once you see what’s really going on, you can’t tell others the name of it  –
all you can do is point.

After a period of time men will begin to sense a ritualistic quality to any human activity whether one was originally intended or not;
(might video games, web surfing and masturbation become liturgies of new religions
or social orders?)

As you properly pursue the investigation of this highly complex case
you must never lose the ability to act and appear ordinary.
   Though you cannot be all things at all times to all people, you can always be a man:
    a fully functioning man   --   and a public symbol of Life's C Force.

History was conceived of by men who couldn’t keep up.

You can think about two totally different worlds:
think about what you have experienced, or think about the thoughts you have;
to ordinary minds they seem the same, so they never look directly at the second;
they claim to stage serious psychological studies of the former so as to explain the latter (an endeavor which, as performed by them, might, in some five dimensional reality somewhere qualify at least as: begging-the-question, turned inside out and multiplied by the square root of two) but in our locale only the few people involved in trying to solve the big case think directly about the thoughts they have, and it is in this pursuit alonethat the few will find what they are seeking, regardless of by what name they may presently designate it.

Men have a multitude of spiritual, cultural, philosophical and moral questions,
but believe it: There is one answer to them all  –  one.
(At least for the few of the few: those with the inner ears & sight of the long distance runner).

Long has the idea of sacrifice been common to the religions & philosophies of man:
the sacrifice of animals, possessions, the lives of followers and prophets;
the reality behind such mechanical behaviors for the few lies in the sacrificing of their own natural, comfortable position in the grid of mortal life for one of an untethered,
free-lance investigator of all things human.
And regarding that other frequent feature of collective man's conception of sacrifice
whereby specially selected individuals willfully give themselves over to death so as to pay-a-price for the rest of humanity,

the certain man understands it to be a price only he can tender.
