BEING IN PRISON IS CLEARLY NOT FATAL
FOR NORMAL INMATES

Escape Plans For The Few Who Find Some Things Worse Than Death
JUNE 26, 2004                                                                         © 2004: JAN COX

Being much taken by stories about The Great Metaphysical Quest,
a certain prince decided to mount one of his own, and after extensive thought
on the matter, conceived of two potential approaches:
either assault that which already is in place  –  or:
go directly to places that are yet to be.
(His less polished brother labeled the plan: “Stand around with your thumb up your ass  –  or: go find a new ass for yourself,”
[a description clearly too rough and unsuitable for most would be mystical seekers
who (if nothing else) are known for their striking sensitivity
(something the elder sibling has taged:
“Eaglets who won’t jump from the nest ‘til everyone else does [or in the alternative]: until they’re dressed in fancier feathers than their contemporaries.”)])
The watchword of one excommunicated falconer: “Only those who plan on being terminally blind believe they are affected by the: ‘Look before you leap’ prescript.”

In a family who had brains,
with strange genetic strains,
the father said to the eldest son:
“Do you not find it mildly interesting that almost immediately after man’s mind began functioning he began to dream of gods and other alien creatures?!”
(Truth is: people with a certain unconventional twist to their neural wiring find almost everything man has gone through  –  interesting.
(This seemed to have caused a boarder at their house to muse:
“The only stuff that is not interesting is stupid stuff  –
all of which have a common denominator  –
which had escaped my attention until this very moment.”
Do you know what it is?)
Then the entire family gathered ‘round and began to sing:
    “Birds gotta swim,
      fish gotta fly,
      and me tryin’ to see,
with me in my eye  –
      can’t help  –
      hatin’ that me of mine.”
(This apparently moved one man’s me to say to him:
“Why do you so verbally abuse me?” to which he replied:
“’Cause I can’t get my physical hands on you.”
(And jerome & oscar chuckled so hard they damn near fell off the boat.)

Two Stories Exemplifying Synergy In The Modern World.
Don’t bite the warden’s teenage daughter on the stomach
if they have your teeth prints on file;
and even though he seldom sees any bears around his cabin
one man nevertheless fires off a round or two out his window every morning,
“just to keep ‘em on their toes,”  says he.

The predominate inherent attitude of those imprisoned in the city can thus be summed: “Immediate fucks  –   not future romances,”
(there are however some who hold the reverse.)
The man (on the other hand) outside the urban compound
takes his lovin’ straight (that is): right now  –  in the instant moment.

A man threw a coin in the sea  –
to see how many waves would grab for it.
    The future sometimes looks back
to see how many in the present are watching it.

A man sitting in a tub’s view: “The future belongs to those who don’t think about it.”

One man put a mental wiretap on himself.
(But it’s all right: HE gave the authorization.)
The nervous-system-rebel invented the activity known as: unilaterally.

P.S. The man above in the tub wrote his high school English teacher:
“Thanks to you the other carpenters on the job won’t speak to me.  Thanks.”
P.P.S. As the king lay wounded on the battlefield, to no one in particular he said:
    “I may be dyin’,
but I ain’t cryin’,”                              (and the other carpenters' faces finally lit up.)

A chap who lives alone says that not infrequently does he catch the fleeting glimpse
of a shadowy figure suddenly darting past a doorway
just at the edge of his peripheral vision;
he says he’s not particularly bothered by it, but just wanted to mention it to someone.

A king who does only what the people want is no leader at all.
(Another installment in: Surveying The Mind.)

A famous reporter who had consistently failed in his attempts to get an interview
with a certain sage finally in pride-fueled frustration wrote him:
“Do you know who I am!?” to which the awakened one replied:
“I know who everyone is who asks: ‘Do you know who I am!?’”

The usurper ruler of one land was able to formulate (at least to his satisfaction)
his plan of romance for the conquered kingdom in these words:
    “Whip it out –
      stick it in –
      move along and  –
      do it again.”
The would-be metaphysical rebel who remains in one place,
remains a: would-be.

From Birth To Adulthood (In A Single Step).
After the initial childhood thrill of being born & being alive wears off  –
normal human beings turn into ordinary adults and start up an adult form of sleeping different from the juvenile form.

Parenting Skills.
The certain man ultimately understands how to raise himself.

From a particular view outside the prison:
a freed & awakened man lives an insincere life –  truly half hearted (which is to say):
he does not allow his consciousness to consist entirely of the thoughts life feeds
his brain; this is not insincerity in its normal sense,
but a refined, willful type, non harmful to anyone.

Parenting Skills II.
The certain man ultimately understands that it’s up to him to raise himself  –
in that special way he has in mind.

Men who only think about something after it happens to them
are like birds in cages who hear only the songs played by their owner’s.

Toward the thoughts that naturally appear in his head,
one man assumed the position: “Don’t speak unless spoken to,”
then did his damndest not to speak to them.

In his left palm one rebel has written: “It Doesn’t Have To Be That Way,”
and in his right: “Who’re You Kidding!”
(Note: the man-who-knows is constantly kidding .)
