At a time when the people were attempting to flee the city,
its institutional voice cried out: “Ah hah!   The truth hurts!” --  and they shouted back:
“So does everything else.”
Only the-man-who-knows can live amidst fleas and not be bugged,
for the insects that populate man’s inner reality can only bite if you look at them
(and need it be noted that the certain man certainly has better things to look at).
In fact, the above story could be condensed and revised thus, for the few:
In man’s inner reality, things can only be painful if you’re aware they’re there,
and of course the ratass fact is that they are not there  --  nothing is,
save the automatic inventing & awaring machinery.
“What a place!  --   you can be in prison any time you want by simply thinking: prison.”

The City Commission announced:
“I regret to have to tell you, but as long as ten remains larger than nine,
there will be those among us who will take advantage of the numerical system.”

When he heard it said that life only requires of men: “lackluster thinking,”
one chap glanced  at those around him  --  mused for a moment  --  then muttered:
“Gads!  --  how efficiently it is working.”

He who understands what is going on recognizes that everyone else feels
they have enough difficulty with life without him adding to it.

Mental Health As Alcohol Imbibing.
Ordinary minds could not operate as they do were not the pleasures of drink followed by the horrors of hangovers.
The Unstated City Creed: “In a bind we were born  --
and in a bind, we thrive,”
(needless to say that the rebel’s dictionary has a definition different from theirs for that last word.)

On another world there is a most splendid sport they call: “Hit Or Miss,”
and if (from this limited info) you can figure out what it is  --  you can probably play it.

One man mulled: “Am I muddled in my thinking,
or do not men commonly mistake mystics for moral-teachers  --
confusing a private desire to awaken for a public message of some sort.”

Conversation Number Sixty Three.
“Ghosts will talk to you  --  but only if you want them to.”
      “Sort of like the mind?!”
“Are you trying to be cute!”

The city and civilization automatically provide an abundance of: talk, talk, talk,
but without uncommon enriched talk, you will suffer mental dehydration & stagnation.
One chap (as he puts it):
“to display his independence from the tyrannical grip of perfunctory culture”
will, whenever he hears Mozart or Bach, yell out in apparent horror:
“What in the hell is that racket!”
After hearing a leading citizen say: “If you know how rich you are  --
you are not really rich,” one man thought:
“Praise be to Rockefeller that isn’t applicable to intelligence.”
How Things Work Vis A Vis Duration’s Impact.
Given funeral oratory of sufficient length, every dead man’s life becomes heroic.

Question & Answer Time for 10/12/03.
Q: How can you describe what those who say they are struggling to
escape man’s normal state of consciousness are actually doing?
A: Describe a satyr’s return to virginity, a civilized man’s return to savagery,
and thought to a time when it was but a twinkle in consciousness’ eye/I.

Regarding Perusal & Comprehension For The Rebel.
Being able to read between the lines cuts down considerably on the number of lines necessary to pursue for what you want to know.

A man asked a sage: “Rather than being adither about how little conscious man can be, could we not be thankful for how conscious we normally are?!”
“That’s certainly one way of looking at it.”
(Assume it was a slow day all around.)

How Mind Can Work.
If the word, 'consistency’  is unknown to you  --  can consistency matter to you?

One day an old man mused:

“Is being an, old-man anything more than a metaphor for resignation & decay?”
He awaited a reply from the young;
it proved to be an extensive wait.
