A
father advised a son: “Bend over and run like a beaver
whenever
anyone begins to speak and their opening words are:
‘It
pains me to say this about man, but…’ -- Hell! --
EVERYBODY
is disappointed with man -- except he who understands him;
indeed:
to be a leader of men, or a treater of their spiritual & psychological
ills demands that you NOT understand him -- in fact:
the
very m.o. by which ordinary people get by for seventy years
is:
feigning
incomprehension of him.
Perhaps,”
he further mused,
“It
is not intended that a creature with thoughts ever turn them on himself
--
not
at least in any productive fashion -- not in one that might
lead to
a
realization of why men continually express disappointment in themselves.
There
seems embedded in man’s temperament a dissatisfaction with himself metaphysically
that is genetic, and not acquired from experience,
so
that whatever he does in his various non physical pursuits of art &
intellect,
he
never finds adequate;
even
if his peers acclaim his work -- he is never satisfied therewith.
From
the mortal perspective: a geologist can enjoy conclusive results to his
efforts, but a psychologist, never;
chemists
can rest at the end of the day, while poets’ work is never over.
Science
is done
when a question is answered, a problem solved --
in
every other activity in which men engage, nothing ever gets done
--
which
is required for these activities to survive and continue.
As
regards every non physical matter that interests men:
thought
is always disappointing --
no
thought about any of these affairs can ever be satisfying --
if
they are to remain of interest,
and
also can he not maintain a continual awareness of the situation
without
a fatal blow thereto.
To
understand the material world:
what
you think & say about it must match what you see and touch,
while
the (quote) understanding
men commonly claim they have of their psychological/spiritual/cultural
world rests on the opposite:
what
a man’s physical eye sees -- his mental one must ignore,
or
else all of the many intangible things which attract man’s attention,
and
about which much of his talk and thought is devoted, would disappear,
and
man would not be the unique creature he is today.
By
any standard that an ordinary man would deem valid:
what
humans have accomplished on this planet is incomparable;
nothing
like what they have done is known to exist anywhere else in the universe:
man
stands as a singularity amongst all forms of life, yet he consistently,
in
certain respects, judges himself to be inferior to other native creatures
--
creatures
who do nothing other than be born, and die;
whose
only (quote) accomplishment
is surviving in the period between the two.
If,
my boy, a giraffe had for a moment, human sensibility, it would be flabbergasted
-- and so would a human --
if
it weren’t for all the human stuff that automatically always gets in the
way.
If
men suddenly realized clearly what it is to be a man --
I
don’t know what would happen, but (wink, wink:
nudge,nudge)
I
do
know what happens when one of our kind does.
Whoo-wee!
-- more fun than lappin’ up juniper berries with a two foot tongue!”

All
crime is hormonal directed (that is): survival threatening,
and
thus -- is not funny -- however:
thinking
it to be something more than it is -- is.
Ergo,
all of man’s metaphysical censure of the human drama is hilarious
(leastwise
to those in the audience not asleep).
On
one planet were two distinct groups:
one
which could laugh at death,
and
another that could do so at illness;
the
certain man transposes this to Earth and to the matters of:
not-knowing,
and recognizing not-knowing.

“Something
like that.”
There
was once a king whose very breath seemed nurtured by the chaos of war,
and
who, before riding into every battle would say to himself:
“Without
these battles -- there would BE no battles,”
and
would add his horse: “And thus -- no king.”
The
rider and mount work together, but on one world, neither have a clear picture
of it.
