MEN IN THE CITY KNOW
WHAT THE CITY WANTS THEM TO KNOW

You can misplace your keys;
you can misfile a folder,
but you can’t mislay your mind.
As he sat watching an intellectual give a lap dance,
a man was suddenly startled by self recognition:
“Hey! --  I didn’t recognize you with underwear on!”
And one man began to perceive his everyday thoughts to have a bad odor,
and they finally said to him: “So why don’t you wash us, or change us some time!” --
and another chap patted his rub, and stomached his head and sighed:
“Ah, modern ideas!  Where do kids come up with them from.”
In the passion of his campaign for self improvement,
every time he accosts one of his untoward inclinations, this one man neurologically throws himself against the wall and says: “Okay!  --  assume the position!”
Outside the realm of hormones: all adversaries appear on an ad hoc basis;
this is how business in the city both: gets done  –  yet never gets done with.
Fact: When you can’t kill a foe --  you live forever amidst foes;
fact: You can’t kill that which doesn’t exist.
“Hey! --  everybody knows that!”
Fact: In the city: just because you know something doesn’t mean squat.
 “Well..........I know that too..........I just keep forgetting.”
Fact: There’s something in city air that affects a particular memory muscle.

Another exciting episode from the continuing drama:
“Now It Can Be Told”  --  “No It Can’t!”   --   “Yes It Can!”

One man was so stringent in his conservation of thought
that whenever he did bring one out, it would often be suffering from freezer burn.
The way solid citizens of the city check on their mental health is by letting their
dog race out of the yard and see if it gets run down by a passing vehicle again.
For the inner world of ordinary men, there are no treatments that work, or do not work; there are simply infinite treatments that appear in this world, supplied by  this world.
Note: What level of idiot expects The Giant to toss Jack down an axe that will
actually cut anything!

Everyone who writes in the city wants to be fawned and admired  --
or else have their writings feared and denounced.
                                                                    In the city,
                                                                    it’s smarts by the ounce.

Regarding The Reference Department.
The certain man refers to nothing;
past a certain point in this sojourn: you do  --    you die.     (Okay: you slide backwards.)

You have two things to deal with in life:
external circumstances, and your inner temperament, and for the rebel
the big distinction is that circumstances are what most incline you to whine.

One man’s suggestion: “Never say 'I'  --   never think 'I',
and you will never put your eye out.”
And one man rhymed: “Eye out  --  'I' out,
                                          there’s your ultimate  --  bail out.”

One man says he finds something “obscenely religious & enlightening” in the fact that a man can hear himself – talk-to-god  --  indeed, he notes:
the one addressing the divine
is the only one the speaker can be sure IS hearing his words;
he says he finds this fact to be extremely provocative,
and wonders why all the world’s supplicants don’t.

In the city you don’t get arrested for being too dumb  --  only too smart;
in the city you don’t get depressed by being too dumb............(la de blah de la).

How Everyone Finally Wakes-Up: They die.

(Called by some: "Is that really a bargain?")

Fact: The only awards worth having are those you bestow on yourself.
Fact: The man-who-knows shuns anything resembling an award.
Fact: The private doing of what you are destined to do
           is all the certain man requires.
             (“No one knows about this but me  --  and me’s not talking.”)
Show Biz News.
“I may not be much of a vocalist, but I’m a hellava back up singer for myself.”

Another Family Conversation.
“Son: holding yourself out as an example of something
is hanging your sorry self out to dry.”

“Dad: do you have any ego at all?”
     “I don’t have to  --  I have you.”
Hormones make ordinary people have children;
extraordinary neurons drive the few to have their self.

One of the more interesting signs of a-man-who-knows-what-is-going-on
is that he never makes ordinary people aware that he knows more than them
(‘course they have no way of knowing that anyway  --  but still he is careful not to do it.)

One father tied a pork chop around his son’s mind to keep the dog closer to home.

How Everyone Finally Wakes Up: They die,
and go back to being undeluded molecules.
“Why can’t you do that before you expire?”
 At last: a worthwhile question.
