THE
BIG TASK
_____________________________________
Everyone
is born with the awareness of a Big
Task –
it
is in man’s genes, and not a learnt cultural phenomena, though in the public
arena
(in
much diluted form) is where it is pursued by ordinary men.
As
with everything else instinctive: its reality is operationally known to
the
silent parts of man’s nervous system, which (as in many other instances)
direct
consciousness to attempt a telling thereof,
and
as always be true in the situation of consciousness (a verbal function)
being
given the job of trying to describe something which,
in
essence has been conveyed to it in a language it does not understand
(a
language without words), the verbal result is not factually reliable.
From
an inherent, distorted perspective, the whole of humanity
recognizes
the presence in everyone of The Big
Task,
and
in all cultures is it celebrated, but in highly oblique fashions;
primarily
through what are called: initiations-into-manhood,
wherein
boys, at about the age of twelve (the on set of puberty),
undergo
some tests, hardships, and rituals which ostensibly prove them ready
to
physically join the adult world of the culture, but it is in truth the
covert recognizing of The Big Task’s
presence
along with the unspoken understanding that
this
ritual will probably be as close as the initiate will ever be involved
therewith,
his
only even indirect contact from then on being confined to his
perfunctory
participation in the tribe’s religious observations:
while
such activities are thought of throughout the world as: the-beginning-of-adulthood,
they are just as much: the-end-of-The-Big-Task.
Being
in their genes, men do not actually forget The
Big Task,
but
the forms it publicly takes after being filtered through the mind
are
far removed in intensity from the original;
in
ordinary men’s collective life its uncredited manifestation is everywhere,
from
religion, to the arts, to the pursuit of occupational success;
man
uniquely is programmed to achieve more than merely survive;
he
alone is driven to succeed in matters that have no essential significance:
wealth
and fame: the acquisition of surplus resources;
gaining
the respect of his peers without his physical domination thereof
(e.g.
being accepted as an especially spiritual, artistic or learned person),
but
every single facet of mankind’s cultural life is nothing other than
a
watered down acknowledgment of The
Big Task;
whatever
the activity, if it is not the clear effort to gain physical dominance
--
it
is The Big Task
-- unconditionally, unquestionably.
This
is why nothing about man’s cultural world can be explained
--
art
cannot be explained; music cannot be explained; literature cannot be explained;
religion cannot be explained; philosophy cannot be explained;
psychology
cannot be explained --
nothing
that is part of man’s intangible other reality can be explained (that is
to say):
its
reason for being cannot be satisfactorily explained, and this is because
nothing
in that realm is what the mind says it to be –
ergo:
how can
things there be expected to be understood?!
At
some second decade age, a minor, unnoted divide occurs,
whereby
99.99999% of humanity splits away from .00001%;
the
former become: Normal Humanity,
and the latter,
the
unknown few, whose non standard genetic programming drives them to
undertake
The
Big Task in as direct a manner as is
perceptible to them individually;
they
are not wired to be antagonistic to collective man’s conventional
cultural
activities -- their wiring and interest is simply such
that
they
cannot non physically survive thereon;
they
may enjoy poetry and painting, or the spectacle of religious
rituals,
but for them: everything there is at best entertaining, and nothing nourishing,
as
per the attempt to prosecute and complete The
Big Task.
Nothing
ever said in man’s collective forum meets the criteria;
the
mind is incapable of speaking about The
Big Task directly;
it
does not know precisely what the term represents:
all
neurons know is that it has a reality far beneath them,
and
completely beyond their comprehension;
the
best that consciousness can do is struggle to give some general indication
of
its
nature -- having only non verbal nudges from the silent
areas of
the
nervous system to go by,
(like
a ventriloquist's dummy trying to speak, but whose operator is mute, and
all he has to go on are the physical movements of the ventriloquist's hand
in his back);
thought
tries to give a verbal interpretation of what is non verbally being said
in
the nervous system about The Big
Task,
but
the result is always understandably distorted, imprecise, and unreliable;
only
the .00001% are genetically close enough to The
Big Task
to
make direct sense of it, and thus be able in any meaningful way
to
undertake its fulfillment.
All men feel it -- but a few do it.
