As
the Royal Philosopher
lay on his death bed
(which
stood just aft of the hypothalamus)
the
King
knelt beside him and gently whispered:
“My
trusted friend: I have long suspected that you know much more about
the
nature of life than you have told me;
has
not the time now arrived for you to reveal to me whatever deep secrets
you
possess?” and the dying sage replied:
“Your
Grace: I have already done all for you that a man like you can have done;
what
you now ask is not as simple as it sounds inside your own head when you
say it, for a man from another planet -- even if he is carrying a
locally made sandwich --
is
still from another planet,”
and
as he slipped away, His Grace
suddenly didn’t feel all that graceful.

life
simply made them mistake advancing age as an increase in understanding.

Question:
what is this universe’s most easily frightened creature?
Answer:
a normal human mind.
Skittish is as seen herein,
a mortal cowed is life’s good friend --
not
saying its best
friend (which would be a fully realized mind) --
but
a good one...........the expected one.
Yelling
out his car window into the smiling open mouth of the big plastic clown
head, local reality gave its order:
“Since
I’ll be driving all night on my way to Ordinarymanville,
you
better just give me a couple of Wimpburgers.”
And
later, on his way over, reality played the question-&-answer game in
his head:
“What,”
he asked himself, “Is this world’s most easily misinformed creature?”
and
no sooner had he answered: “The human mind” than he thought: “Wait!
--
that’s
a fallacious response,
‘cause
the human mind is the only creature who can be IN-formed.”
In
the city: being pushy doesn’t cost any more -- or less,
and,
luck
in that milieu, is primarily an activity of youth.
“Getting
old,” says one man: “Doesn’t enlighten you,
but
it does stop you from giving a shit that you’re in the dark.”
Being

“How about being dense?”
How
old do you have to be to be dumb enough to ask that!
One
man admits that when he speaks,
he
does sometimes stretch the things he says -- BUT:
firmly
adds that he only stretches the TRUTH -- nothing else.
One
legend holds that a special place in the Hades
Of Sleep
awaits
those who exaggerate lies,
and
that awakening to the truth in this life comes only BY a man discovering
how to make more of what he knows is true than is actually there;
enlightenment
allows you to see how things really are,
but
only by producing your own self-magnified light will it ever occur.
City
minds have what they call knowledge,
the
certain man possesses what they would find a totally extravagant version
thereof (assuming they could ever see what he has in his mind --
which is not possible).
"Sex,
sex, sex!" exclaimed one man to himself: "Is that all you ever
think about!" --
and
his hormones replied: "Hey -- don't ask us, we're not the ones doing
the thinking," which of course was their easily seen-through attempt to
shift responsibility
by
making a joke of human nature.

When
the nervous system speaks -- everybody listens --
everybody who can hear,
which is limited to a specific part of the nervous system --
'cept
that part can't seem to normally tell where the voice is coming from.
"Well
Pop: that makes it tricky to know just where to put your money, doesn't
it."
"But my boy, it keeps the dilettantes out of the market and out of our
hair."
(Suggestion: "Dilettantes" here quite likely means: "thoughts".)
To
stay in shape and keep the inner fire alive,
one
man would periodically walk up to strangers and in an off hand voice say:
“Don’t
take this personally: but if I had the time -- I’d whip your
ass” --
and
since he DID -- he didn’t have to.
“Hey -- what are we really talking about here?!” --
this:
a
man who can’t beat himself up mentally is too much of a wimp to worry about.
And
once upon a time there was a man who removed the word, “try”
from
all his speech and thought.
Definition: Man’s normal thinking: life’s way of saying: “Can’t you take a joke?!”
Just
as there are both the universal and the local;
the
public and the private, the nervous system and the mind,
there
are also two forms of
mind: the collective and the individual,
and
it is the former which plans all city activities, and recreational sleepwalking.
In
the “Semi-Conscious” -- no, that should be:
“Semi-Annual
Serious Poetry Competition” in the
city,
a
submission that didn’t make the final round, opened with this line:
“Love, oh love;
to my mind, my heart is a bladder…”
Striving
to expand his personal explorations, the neural privateer determined not
to dilute his efforts with concerns about the activity of sailing;
for
the certain man, the job apparently at hand
is
not necessarily the one which will pay off for him.

Definition: Man’s Mind:
the nervous system’s way of saying:
“Hey!
– can’t you take a joke!”
One
man found himself alone (metaphorically) in the city
in
that he was the only person who did NOT have an explanation for it.
Cultural
self-identification equals individual mis-identification –
another
reminder that cows love herds, sheep, flocks, and men,
civilized
groups of those with similar nervous systems and hence, thoughts,
and
the rebel will eventually see this situation via his own recognition that
this
is also how his own natural-born, city mind hangs together.
The
weak and dense will cling to one another, and to simplistic dreams;
the
more sophisticated, to simply more sophisticated dreams and contemporaries,
while
the knight errant is of a mind that strains constantly against the
cohesive-seeming
control of his nervous system,
and
which attaches itself to nothing extant in mankind’s collective mental
life.
Ordinary
minds are like little single hulled row boats,
each
flying a religious, cultural or nationalistic flag of identification,
and
all tied securely, though surreptitiously, to a common pier;
the
neural buccaneer withal is aboard an unmarked trimaran --
unlashed,
and running free -- destination, unknown.

Whenever he could
remember to do it: one man would say to his nervous system as it would
be sending up hormones to stir up his neurons: “I thought this was originally
intended to be a joke?!”
