Saving You The Personal Nose-Holding Since 1909

At first (for the few driven to pursue it)
achieving the realization of what is going on seems to change what you know,
but what actually occurs is a radical alteration in how you feel about knowing  --
about man’s inbred conception of what knowing is.

From the most estimable perspective possible for human thought,
the most meaningful word in the human lexicon is  --  change;
the ability to behaviorally do so singularly distinguishes man from beast,
and represents to men’s minds the highest mark to which to aspire;
inherent in mortal genes is the feel-for, and idea-of an ongoing, ever progressing
goal line always just ahead of where men collectively, and individually are,
giving Homo Sapiens an instinct unknown in any other creature: the drive to change.

In humanity collectively, and in ordinary men individually,
this instinct is played out on the field of civilization:
men continually changing their environment to better suit their needs,
and changing their behavior to better fit environmental imperatives:
this is the operational definition of civilization.

This does not account for the certain man --  the rare man whose entangled genetic background results in him being born with a decidedly non conventional instinct
to change something quite outside the collectively expected, above noted:
hormonally, everyone instinctively is driven to live,
and neurally, everyone instinctively is driven to figure out ways
to make continued living more likely;
only the certain man has an instinct to want more from his nervous system  --
a vigorous urge to effect actual change therein.

In early years as his growing peers are wanting to change their looks,
their walk, their talk, their place in the pecking order,
the-certain-man-boy may share in these common maturing urges,
but he has an additional one: a marrow-deep desire to change something
neither he nor his parents or teachers can identify.
Once such a person gets past the predictable interlude of imagining that
what he wants is to change himself into a physical super-human: be able to fly, withstand all assaults, destroy all adversaries, attract all sexual partners,
play all music, write all books, paint all paintings, shoot all shots; read minds,
raise the dead, and have the midas touch in all of life’s material matters;
after he gets over this he is left with an open space in his mind reflecting the next big question for him: “Then what is it exactly that I feel so hell bent driven to change?”
The answer seems to be: “A change in my knowledge!
If what I long for is not change in my body and physical circumstances,
then what, if not in my mind!”

Here commences the certain man’s chapter in the pursuit of  --  super knowledge  --
not super strength, super wealth, super appeal,
nor any form of super physical wherewithal, but the acquisition of
super (and obviously secret or everyone would already know it) knowledge,
(commonly referenced by ordinary men as a spiritual undertaking,
but is the same thing).

He feels confident now that his persistent, difficult to name hunger
is for the knowledge, perhaps even just a single secreted fact
that will explain everything about everything (to wit):
explain everything about being alive;
about being a creature who can think about being alive;
about being a creature who can think about his ability to think about being alive, (although initially in this stage he likely conceives of the secret in cruder form,
this, nonetheless is what it ultimately proves to be).

Few of the few born with the uncommon genetic wiring & programming
that makes the certain man
ever leave this phase;
they either die, confessing their self still in search of the super knowledge,
or asserting they found it  --  which they can articulate, and say they are obligated to do for humanity’s welfare  --   which is proof to the contrary.
Only an unknown number have, in the history of conscious man,
experienced something beyond this  --   a realization OF consciousness
which gives to a man all the knowledge of life and man to which a mortal mind
has access, or is capable of absorbing (which ever way you care to look at it).

When this extremely rare realization comes to a man,
it at first seems to change what he knows
(which is surely what super knowledge would do),
but slowly developing in his private perception is the awareness that
what has actually changed is how he feels about the matter man calls  -- knowing;
from one quite robust verbalizable view, the great, secret super-knowledge is knowledge of one subject only: knowing,
for knowing is all that consciousness can do:
it cannot ward off bullets, pin foes, throw a ball, change its appearance,
or attract a mate, all it can do is  --  know stuff,
but the one thing ordinary consciousness cannot know,
or even know that it does not know,
is what knowing IS  --
what the actual nature and reality of knowing be  --
on what it is based, and what ends it serves;
only the man who knows what is going on knows what knowing is,
and even he does not so much know what it is as he does feel what it is
in the lives of men.
In a manner based entirely on practical efficiency for his own private purposes,
he does understand intellectually what knowing is,
but in the broader, general sense,
it is his feeling about what knowing is in the lives of common men
that marks his uncommonness.

The brains of ordinary men are wired & programmed to have a conception of knowing that is (from an unwired, unprejudiced perspective) undeserved,
in that it is exaggerated;
routine minds (knowing machines) have an innate, overblown impression of knowing, which serves men well in the continuing evolvement of civilization and its collateral, technological alteration of the environment,
(knowing says: “It’s good to be king” [then sub rosa]:
“Even if my subjects do have an unrealistic image of me.”)

Only a man whose consciousness has somehow gotten untethered,
and wandered away from civilization’s standard confines,
off into normally unused nervous system territory knows knowing for what it is;
it is not untoward to say that such a man knows something great and secret,
something ordinary humans do not know,
but what he knows that is so extraordinary is not a knowing,
but a knowing ABOUT what knowing actually is.

From a quite non civilian position: knowing is the great captor;
as much as man physically benefits by his consciousness’ ability to know,
and as gloriously entertained as he can be by his consciousness
playing harmless games with knowing,
from the totally personal perspective of the certain man: knowing is a prison,
(more accurately as quickly as possible):
knowing, without the knowledge of what knowing IS  --  is a prison:
a common yard of thriving billions, but wherein (in a special manner) --
all are blind and deaf to certain sights and particular sights   --
the very ones that inform the minority man with the multiflamborious wiring  --

--  what is actually going on with life.

You may know a lot  --  you can even know everything,
from the latest psychiatric theories to the capitol of Mongolia,
but unless you can feel what knowing itself is really about  --
(blah, blah, blah  --  blah cetera).
