ADAM’S INITIAL CONCLUSION THAT THERE ARE WORSE THINGS THAN, "HEARING VOICES"  -  HE LATER CAME TO VIEW AS A PREMATURE JUDGMENT

Mortal genes furnish myths to explain how hormones begat neurons,
the wild dog was chained, and man became civilized;
man-the-collective and ordinary men individually
(according to the need of the moment)
take these myths as either the literal history of man,
or else as a pressure relieving metaphor for his confusion & incorporeal discomfort;
stories are wonders of the universe --  only man has them –
only man has the brain that talks by which to tell them;
the physical world answers all physical questions (food, hunger, water, thirst,
sleep, weariness), but only stories answer man’s intangible needs and inquiries –
no food will vanquish fear, nor any shelter shield one from the knowledge of death  --  only stories which life plants in man’s genes, which grow through his nervous and endocrine systems, then blossom in his brain can provide the provincial relief
(if not permanent satisfaction)
he needs regarding these non physical, yet quite pressing concerns.

As far as anyone knows, the heart does not know that it will eventually die,
nor can it imagine painful possibilities it may suffer in the interim  --
only man’s brain has the ability to borrow-trouble  --
to suffer (as it were) over ills not physically suffered --
ills that exist as certain electrochemical combinations and connections in the brain --
a talent which can save a man regularly from death and physical harm,
but when not so engaged, and simply running (as it does ceaselessly) in neutral gear (which in civilized men is most of the time),
rather than saving men from real troubles, what it does from a few men’s unconventional, purely personal perspective is create and keep active,
unprofitable -- unnecessary confusion in their mind.
Once the brain has introduced this (based on your view) either: useful-trouble,
or just, trouble into man (Adam hears the cautioning voice of God),
its way of then handling what it has wrought in the areas which have no
physical counterpart on which man can lay hands, and thus effect change,
and alleviate tangible problems,
is by weaving ostensibly explanatory tales which somehow,
ordinary brains can hear themselves recite  --
then immediately accept as being objective, meaningful information
in complete feigned disregard for their source  --  themselves.
Due to the reality of the situation
(in spite of men and their minds pretending to play it otherwise),
the stories the brain puts out to explain the nature of life and the purpose of man
do not fully satisfy anyone  --
oh, men certainly make great public shows to the contrary
(the appearance and profession of, faith),
but everyone is privately quite aware that none of the various
transcendental myths available world wide provide the needed information
(the right neural combination for their brain)
to pacify the incessant unrest in their non physical self.
Having no alternative  --   men make do  --
by a generalized, never-too-critically-analyzed acceptance of the stories available,
and obviously (just look at civilization) are none the less for it  -- however:
there are born amidst the human species a few who do feel themselves,
less for being subject to this standard situation,
and while they can offer no rational reason for feeling so  --
they nevertheless do feel so  --  and most strongly.
What they seek (though not perceiving it as such initially) are new myths --
and ultimately a new single myth --  one that explains everything,
and answers all questions they have about things you can’t put your hands on,
(that is): the really important stuff.

For whatever reason, the brain is not normally wired, programmed and capable of turning its universally unique power to think --  to picture, then examine a matter
as a representative abstraction floating in its field of consciousness --
clearly and directly about its own operations in this regard;
under routine conditions, the best the brain can do is invent tales about itself
in which it appears as an extrinsic figure (gods and heroes of every stripe) --
its standard efforts to see and to think about itself are exercised at arm’s length
by it making up fantasies about itself in the guise of another entity, then pretending
(in everyday practice) that it does not know it is really talking about itself
(or you could say: is making its best effort to talk about itself)  --   however:
the anomalies supra spotted by their nervous system inheritance sense the radical weakness of all the myths, both supernatural (religious), and natural (psychological),
and after brief (or what should be brief) attempts to correct them  --
which they find beyond their ability to do  --  since at that stage they have no idea
what is actually going on with the stories, much less how they could effect corrective, enlightening alteration thereto, in other words:
they are as lacking in substantial information about life and man as are the myths.

If such men do not get past this point they become mere traducers --  impotent critics -- cry-baby-voices in a wilderness held meaningless by their peers –
but if they slip through this the challenge then is to realize both the purpose of
the myths about man & gods, and what the stories are actually talking about  --

which is not man & gods.

When the certain man’s brain extraordinarily and inexplicably suddenly realizes what is going on in this all encompassing human situation  --   everything is realized;
such a man’s mind is no longer in a dream –
his thoughts are not in the dark, and his consciousness  is not in captivity  --
internally, privately and personally he is:
awake, enlightened and liberated.
