JAN’S: THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER WHERE IT IS GREENER

Man has two vocabularies: How Do I Do That?
(re the outside world, e.g. “How do I grow corn?”  --   “How do I build a grist mill?”)
and: How Can I Change This? (re his inner one, e.g.
“How can I get people to change from believing in Allah to believing in Jehovah?”  –“How can I change my angry attitude?” );
there is always a useable, hands-on answer to the first  --  never one to the second.
The reason men do not criticize hurricanes, but do, other men’s ideas
is that the first one cannot be changed, and men understand that it cannot be,
and neither can the second, but that one they do not understand so,
                                           (or refuse to face it......or life does not allow them to.......pick one).

Materials can be changed --  men cannot;
men’s molecules can be changed (by disease, accident) –  their minds cannot;
their minds accept the first  --  not the second.
Men do not argue with rocks  --  only with other men’s minds;
men do not even argue with other men’s bodies --  they may strike them,
but not argue with them;

men only argue where it will accomplish nothing.

From one man to another,
mind can convey useful information concerning the external world;
from one man to another, their inner worlds differ so greatly (and being imaginary to boot)
that nothing of reason or substance can from person to person be communicated;

all they can verbally do is criticize.
One man can tell another man that his ideas about inner affairs are wrong,
but he cannot show him why they are in the same way he could show him
in the outer world why his corn will not grow due to his planting technique;
when a crop is improperly sown its lack of physical fruition is proof of its wrongness;
ideas about the inner world are not liable to such evidence, since illusory seeds produce neither healthy nor flawed fruit --
they simply reproduce themselves over and over.
Thus do men dine on physical food and are satiated,
    while no amount of idea consumption will ever satisfy.

Profitably do men seek from one another,
directions on dealing with materials in the outer, physical world,
but to no end  --   and to eyes blind to the fact --   do they seek from one another,
information regarding the matters that make up their inner, intangible world;
in discussions which have a definite goal and achievable conclusion,
one man can tell another how to use leverage to move objects heavy beyond
his own strength,
but no man can tell another how he can move people’s ideas to match his,
or even how he can shore up doubts he has about his own.
Things which men have built in the outer world can be repaired when broken;
nothing in man’s inner world of mind can ever be;
ideas cannot be fixed  --  ideas do not get busted;
minds say that they do  --  and men go along  --  (what is their choice?!) --
but one with that inherent special interest (backed by proper effort)
can realize the indescribable, un conveyable and un provable fact that the malleability, and meaninglessness of ideas about inner reality render them immune to any harm

(try punching out Pinocchio.....................much less insulting him.)

Ideas concerning things in the outer world can be faulty, and when so --
not forever be ignored,
but with all ideas mind has about its own ideas (inner reality),
since they have no objective, meaningful, measurable  --  rightness or wrongness,
their individual nature is
whatever the man acting as their immediate medium is made to say that it is:
if Jack says he believes the beans are magic, there is no evidentiary contrary,
for he is not talking about the beans  –  he is talking about the idea of magic,
and one mind can no more cause another mind to perceive its ideas as being wrong, broken or delusional than, if you were talking to god in prayer,
                          you could convince him that he does not exist.

To be mentally routine is to believe that men’s ideas can be changed or fixed,
not unlike a flat tire;
to be minimally routine is to believe so about others  --
            --  to be super so is to think so about yourself.

Accounting for men’s instinctive, non mental aggressive defense of territory & mate,
they believe, claim and act as though what they dislike about one another is their ideas, and not differing ideas they may have concerning the best construction of a house,
or the harvesting of rice,
but ideas about things on which no man can lay hands --
the ideas in fact which ordinary minds commonly say are of more importance than those regarding shelter and sustenance --
ideas which men say are about their souls, their spirit, their secret inner-self  --
their special inner-life.
Not unheard of is a man passively permitting an invader to take his land from him,
but then rising up to resist a similar threat to his religion;
mind by nature can be as protective of its ideas as a mother lion her cubs,
(and if this strikes you as --  okay-by-me --  then okay it be, and you are certainly in good company,
                                                     since ordinary people find the majority to be the best of company.)

The ideas life feeds to the collective mind of man come with their own unrealized,
damn-near, tamper-proof protection;
they themselves announce what they are and they alone define what they mean;
they address the listeners  --  and they are the listeners;
do not waste neck muscle energy tilting your head to look up for gods --
the most powerful force recognizable by man are the ideas in his own head;
in their domain --  the inner reality --  they are omnipotent;
nothing else in the observable universe comes close to exercising the complete domination and total control that ideas wield effortless in an ordinary man’s mind;
if for whatever reason, they decided to say that hot is cold, or black is white,
then so it is in that man’s mind, even though others (the majority)
will deem him grossly mistaken.
The absolute, automatic and uncontested power which
the unsolicited ideas that make up a normal man’s mind --  have over his mind,
operate with impunity  --  for they operate unseen  --   who is to see them?!  --
ordinary ideas do not rat on themselves.
You do not ask a priest: “What happens after you die?” and he say:
“I do not know” – or a politician why he is a member of the XYZ party, and he respond: “I do not know” --  or a psychiatrist, why you think like you do,
and he give a similar reply;
all ideas about the idea-world can instantly handle any questioning of their authority, and validity  --  if some idea cannot do this in its sleep  --  it is not an idea.

The ordinary minds of ordinary men do not have time to worry about any of this  --   they are far too busy --
too involved with much more important matters & pressing problems --  just ask them.

No matter how sincere, honest or intelligent may another person be,
they cannot tell you anything whatsoever factual or of any use regarding the ideas you have in your mind and find of interest because their mind does not understand what is going on with it any better than does yours;
your conversations may entertain and please you (with which nothing is wrong)
but to confuse it for more................................................................................

A man who knows how to mine ore can teach you to do so;
a man who knows how to mine the mind cannot tell you directly
how you can learn to do it, but he can offer descriptions of the landscape
not available in any city assayer ’s office.

The die hard, independent-of-temperament prospector however
is ultimately best served via his own explorations;
someone who knows can have helpful hints and maps not generally available,
but since you must do the actually trekking to the trove anyway,
you might as well get used to it now.................................................but  --   big deal!
you do not even have to leave your chair to do so,
(‘course if you are not for this thing cut out,
trying to do it is the most tiring thing you could ever experience   --    and if you are  --

the most exhilarating.)

Fire in the hole!
