To step out of the mental flow is to stop time;
you erase the past and keep the future in its place;
only now counts --  only now exists --  and it is infinite.
To step out of the flow is to hear what people are actually saying;
not what they pretend they are, and not what other listeners take it to be;
the reality of human speech comes clean.
To step out of the flow is to feel the difference between outer and inner reality;
one is serious, solid, and determinable;
the other, droll and unrestricted; an anything goes, whizbangaroonie,
and their separate natures cannot be confused.
To step out of the flow is to see what is really going on;
not what everyone else believes is, and not what your thoughts say is,
but something else altogether;
not something mysterious that men cannot see,
but the everyday stuff you do not normally see  --
             you’re always too distracted by others and your own thoughts.

To step out of the flow is to bring to a halt, man’s common sense of time,
the one not based on physiology, but psychology;
an ordinary man’s sense of the moving of time is tied directly to
the tempo of the flow of thoughts through his brain’s consciousness;
the more agitating the ideas  --   the more frantic seems time;
a lack of thoughts with passion  --  time becomes turgid.
When your consciousness is being carried by the common mortal flow,
the past seems still alive,
same as you floating down stream in a river does not cause the
up stream areas you have passed to cease to exist,
so too when your mind is drifting in the normal pouring of thoughts through your brain, every part of that omnipresent mental waterway remains extant and viable;
what appeared to you up stream twenty years ago is still there,
and when your consciousness is only at the torrent's surface level,
it is still in touch with whatever occurred before, (up stream);
thus to be of but ordinary consciousness is to have the past be as real,
and significant to you as is the present,
(the future, at water level, being but the past turned inside out).

But if you are one of the few who hears a serene sanity behind this sort of
verbal bubbling, and exercises your power to stand upright in your mind
amidst the ever flowing river of thoughts that automatically pours through your brain,
the power the past normally holds on people vanishes;
the past is places you passed up river --  never to be visited again,
(and in fact is not memory of what happened, but your thoughts there about).
The past lives in you and will influence you as long as you live in the flow;
you cannot simply say: “I will forget the past and not let it affect me”
for if your consciousness drifts-in and is directed-by the flow, you have no such power;
under that normal mental condition a man can no more forget and free himself
from the past than a swimmer can keep from getting wet;
if your mind is floating in the flow you will forever remember & live partially in the past;
(a kind of decaying of the brain before the death of the rest of the body).

But if you make your mental awareness stand upright amidst
the normal running of thoughts through your brain,
you have a perspective of the past not otherwise available;
you can now, (as it were), see back up stream a distance,
and realize that you are no longer there;
it is quite obvious when you are in that position, but not otherwise,
(the difference between what is seen by a man on a hilltop and those on a plain below).
You can willfully recall a scene from the past, like retrieving a previously read book from your library, but when out of the flow,
the past cannot push you around like you do the books on a shelf.
                                      To one who knows, the past is good for a laugh  --  nothing else.

To step out of the flow is to hear finally what people are actually saying when they talk;
when your ears are in the water, same as their tongues,
what you hear is distorted by the medium;
people say whatever the flow through them directs them to say,
and you hear what the flow through you so dictates;
the speaker does not even correctly hear what he says,
thus the listener cannot expect to do any better.
The Babel Office Building is not an allegory for man’s absurdity,
but a blueprint of his proper work place;
there is no problem caused by men not understanding one another’s
words concerning their inner reality  --  hardly;
a problem would occur if they did comprehend what they are actually talking about --
the whole of civilized existence would collapse.
But when one of the, I’m-getting-cold-and-shriveling-up-in-here few
stands up amidst the flow of thoughts automatically running through their brain,
and get their ears of consciousness out of the impersonal water,
they alone can then accurately hear what is actually going on when
ordinary men speak;
none speak for their self  --   but for the flow;
when you hear an ordinary man talk  --  you hear the words of the flow –
it has simply found an outlet in him,
and when you observe ordinary men hearing other such men speak,
you realize that what they hear is what the flow hears through them.

The flow, just like man, constantly talks to itself,
but where man uses his brain for this purpose  --  the flow uses man.
                                                                (Just consider: you are someone else’s day dreaming.)

To step out of the flow is to un mistakenly feel the difference between
the outer reality and man’s special inner one,
the confusing of the two being the O in the H2O of the flow.
The flow needs run at its relentless, oppressive pace to assure that men blur the two,
but when you bring your attention to an upright position in the middle of the
normal neural turmoil, their distinction is plain and palpable,
and you immediately realize that all of the distortions, disputes, and uncertainties that men have regarding what is real and meaningful
arise specifically from their innate failure to do so.
From the perspective when your brain is out of the flow shared commonly by men,
the separate natures of stones and storytelling is quite visible,
and from that vantage point it is not possible to think beliefs and ideologies
share a stage with goiters and Champaign.

Animals have Nature,
man has that and the flow too;
having the flow of thoughts pouring through your brain is what makes you a man;
having men’s brains through which to flow is what keeps the flow alive.

Notice: there are currently enough people on this planet with amenable brains
that the flow won’t miss a few who fail to go along with the program.
