There is, constantly hovering just overhead in the life of man --
The Floating City Of Junk;
everyone knows it is there  --   but no one talks about it;
let’s talk about it.

The City floats because the junk is not material junk  –  it is immaterial junk;
oh, it is important all right  --  just immaterial.

Men live in earthbound physical cities: of mud, stone, wood, and fronds,
but equally significant to their lives is another metropolis: ethereal and
not built of physical materials --  but of words and ideas,
and a municipality to whose construction, all contribute,
and contribute, all of their lives.
While the building of corporeal cities may finally reach a termination point --
not so with The Floating City Of Junk: it is the original: work-forever-in-progress;
as long as man is man --  its construction will never be completed.

Men’s physical cities and The Floating City Of Junk have much in common:
for one thing: men hold dual citizenship and live in them both  --  simultaneously;
for another: men feel a natural, deep rooted allegiance to them both, so much so in fact,
that they normally make no mental nor verbal distinction between the two;
and also: just as the ground upon which their physical cities sit
provides the materials for their own construction,
so too is The Floating City Of Junk the source of its building supplies.
The earth recycles, rebuilds and rejuvenates itself,
and so too does The Floating City Of Junk  --   but to two different ends:
the earth’s recycling sustains all life on the planet;
The Floating City’s recycling is for man’s sustenance solely.

None but man benefits from The City, and to it, none but man contribute;
the age of The Floating City of Junk is unknown;
what man does know is that it was here at the same moment consciousness appeared;
its parallel history with that of his thinking has helped in its
merging with the background and fading from his awareness;
to ordinary minds: it is just there  --  nothing to be specifically noticed:

just always there  --   like air.

In physical cities do men eat, toil, procreate and rest;
in The Floating City Of Junk does all of his other activities occur  --  all:  a – l – l.
His religious services only appear to take place in earthbound structures –
not so --  they are actually held in The Floating City Of Junk;
so too his legislative sessions; his economic forums, his academic classes.
Movies are not really shown in physical cities, nor books read there  --
they both take place in The Floating City Of Junk.

Oh, this living in two cities simultaneously is a truly fascinating arrangement;
tricky, shifty;
some times subtle  --   most times crude and obvious,

yet as noted  --  no one talks about it.

If a man wanted to make maximum use of his life in the earthbound city,
he would abandon his participation in the life of The Floating City,
or minimize it as much as possible.
Some people are born with a natural allergy to The Junk City, and most of them
spend their lives in constant irritation without ever realizing the source;
earth city doctors do not have it listed in their diagnostic desk book,
and the so-called physicians in The Floating City will not correctly identify it
in that the unwritten by-laws of its incorporation forbid any activities therein that could threaten its existence;
you may commit physical suicide in earthbound cities,
but not mental in The Floating one.

Cosmic restraints direct that junk cannot destroy itself;
junk says: “I am with ye always.”

Those with the innate aversion to The Floating City of Junk must abandon it totally
for total relief,
but all men’s minds are programmed not only with a natural attraction thereto,
but also with an inherent desire to contribute thereto;
man’s mind is not only naturally and almost exclusively drawn to
The City Of Junk, but it furthermore suffers the near irresistible urge to
continually add something to its on going construction  --
--  which is most commonly in the form of criticism of its present state.

By best estimates of experts in the area,
over ninety six per cent of The City consists of criticism:
this has forever been The City’s, growth-industry;
everyone on earth wants to contribute  --  and everyone can;

there is no limit to the amount of criticism The Floating City Of Junk can absorb, (remember: it is 96% junk!).

Since, if they would cure themselves, those with TheJunkCityAllergy
must give up completely their participation in the life thereof  --

--  cessation of criticism is critical.

It is difficult to see at first, but any criticism you make of The Floating City Of Junk
not only adds to it, but also strengthens your ties to it;
any criticism from you about the place revalidates your citizenship in the place.

The City Of Junk floats  --   it is everywhere  --  just above ground  --
just over yours and everyone else’s head,
and it is inescapable as long as you struggle with it;
amongst a few its nickname is: Tartown:

the more you mentally contend with it  --  the more to it you become stuck.

The Floating City Of Junk cannot be defeated or overcome
anymore than can History or Nitrogen:
in any skirmish  --  The City triumphs;
you can say you hate it; you can say you adore it  --  The City doesn’t care;
as long as The City is on your mind --  hell!, as long as The City IS your mind --
it has you by the neural shorthairs.

You cannot win against The Floating City Of Junk,
and not realizing this is what keeps irritating the eyes/I’s of the few with TheAllergy.
