Everyone
has to please only one person -- their self;
life
is arranged so that no one can please their self;
life
cannot even please itself as witnessed by the fact that the universe is
not stagnant.
Everyone
believes that they want to please certain other people,
but
this belief is a mis-expression;
humans
do feel a need to please, but the root thereof
is
their consciousness' desire to please itself -- which it cannot
do --
--
so it appears to direct this urge elsewhere.
Being
a social animal, man, at the non conscious level,
does
want to please his immediate pack insofar as instinctively
not
wanting to be driven from their company,
but
this need is met merely by his not being so separated,
but
what distinguishes man from other gregarious creatures is that
he
has an additional desire to please that is not so plainly sourced;
men
want more than for their physical presence to be passively accepted by
others --
--
they appear to want to actively please others,
and
be recognized therefor, and in ways beyond the physical,
(such
as by their strength; sexual prowess, or ability to find food),
no,
everyone tries to please other people in an area which
no
one can bench press, caress, or caramelize.
Humans
live with this ongoing desire to please, but give it no direct analyzation,
except
as a circumstance which may sound relevant is raised in conversation,
and
then becomes covered and lost in conventional concepts of,
fame
and professional success;
under
this guise are men made to say they believe that the acquiring of a
particular
public recognition will give them the satisfaction they seek
when
everyone knows this is not so;
everyone
knows that none of the visible manifestations of this
non
physical based desire to please ever provides satisfaction;
no
amount of fame, admiration or congratulatory offerings from others
will
satiate this un examined human desire to please,
because,
(first off): the desire is not actually about pleasing anyone but yourself,
(and
second off): the desire cannot be fulfilled --
not
until the last minute of the universe's final day.
What
can be done is to understand what is going on,
and
what is going on is man's consciousness trying to please itself.
Remember
that in its primary activities of being aware of your body
and
its physical surroundings, consciousness does please itself consistently,
but
that is not our instant interest:
it
is when consciousness has nothing specifically to do in these two areas
that
it shifts into the, want-to-please mien;
into
the, I-want-to-please-myself-by-understanding-myself mode,
and that indeed, in a caraway seed, is what this is all about.
Men
attempt to feed this desire of their consciousness through several well
known,
but
mis named activities:
one
is by education: providing consciousness with the food of facts;
morsels
of knowledge which will eventually culminate in
his
consciousness becoming satisfied with itself.
Another
is via the arts, whereby men attempt to let their consciousness
reveal
its deep longing to the outside world through its creativity
and
from the appreciation of others for their daring,
achieve
the elusive satisfaction of, having pleased.
The
most common course is, (and has always been): story
telling,
(which
is in truth, the reality of all the various approaches):
a
man's ordinary consciousness weaving wondrous tales of things
never
seen by the listeners and not experienced by the teller;
it
is all religion, cultural history, and explanations of man;
it
is consciousness trying to understand itself by imagining
extraordinary
scenes and events which might somehow -- someday --
maybe
accidentally, ("If I tell enough of them"),
suddenly
make it cognizant of itself through its reflection in the stories it tells.
Consciousness'
biggest tale -- men never recognize,
the
one about it being a "you" inside of you --
and
that, "you-are-conscious" --
and
that you are conscious of being conscious -- and that,
you-know-what-you-are-doing-vis-a-vis-your-desire-to-please:
this
one story alone turns redwoods into toothpicks,
and
Peterbuilts into tricycles:
by
this collectively swallowed tale is everyone cut down to size --
to
the mortal size obviously desired by life,
for
by this one great piece of fiction is man kept moving,
not
just physically as dictated by animal instinct,
but
internally, in a world uniquely his,
where,
by his consciousness being engaged in a never ending quest to
please
and finally satisfy itself by understanding itself,
he
stays as active and open to possibility as are the faraway nurseries of
cosmic
dust and gases -- forever bubbling --
always
threatening to give birth to new stars and whole galaxies.
Man
too possesses such promise -- in
his consciousness --
for
it is singularly here that life reveals its midwifery most clearly;
in
man's never satisfied consciousness can life be most plainly seen
contemplating
and seeking itself,
and
as evidenced by the endless activity of the entire universe,
life
is not yet pleased with itself, and just consider:
life
has no one else to even pretend it is trying to please;
it
truly has only itself to please, and if even life cannot accomplish this,
then
re consider the position you are in
in
the game of trying-to-please-yourself -- and especially
if
you
still believe you are seeking to please anyone but yourself.
For
the few, the truth is this:
beyond
the instinctive, purely mechanical, programmed need to
physically
please the humanity around you sufficiently that you are not
driven
from their company -- you have no interest in pleasing
anyone else.
Remind
yourself again of primary consciousness' two primary responsibilities
of
being
attentive to your body and the conditions around your body,
and
when it does this -- it and you are pleased with what it has done,
but
in its free time -- when it turns its attention onto itself
--
--
which it does as surely as any physical instinctive act --
it
can never be pleased -- nor can you;
it
and you are not intended to be internally pleased --
not until the day that the universe lays down to die.
The
pleasure available for the few is more than any of the few can even imagine
---
until
it is realized;
ordinary
consciousness can never be pleased, (so forget it),
but
there is another-consciousness that can, (it already is):
it
is a consciousness naturally pleased with itself,
(having
no capacity to be not pleased),
for
it falls not into that one, supremely captious story which tells of
a
room in a house that miraculously grew larger than itself --
and
that is precisely what it would take for your ordinary consciousness to
ever be pleased with itself, and thus, you with yourself......as you are....
..............................................if
you insist on remaining ordinary.
J
(Today's trick question: Why would anyone insist on that?
...............And
Theseus asked the Labyrinth: "How did you become a labyrinth," and it replied:
"By thinking I was a Theseus.")
