The
mind men are born with apparently has nothing to think about
other
than the words of other men;
thus
all of the world’s creation myths unwittingly say that man only came into
his
full
manhood (became conscious)
after
the creator became, The Word -- the first word in existence
--
getting
the ball rolling by finally giving men’s minds something to think about.
(If
for no other reason than this,
man
would have been forced by the demands of
the
law of cause&effect his mind subsequently created,
to
come up with stories of an anthropomorphic creator
as
a way for his mind to tolerably explain itself to itself.
[And
indeed, whether you have come to recognize this most useful bit of information
or not:
every
time any man says the word, “God” he is unknowingly saying, “Mind”;
it
is man’s mind speaking of itself in a theoretical future tense.])
The
continuity of all creatures’ physical existence lies in genes;
the
continuity of man’s civilized existence rests on words;
verbal
cannibalism is the keystone to collective stability,
and
to individual men’s sanity (routine men);
widespread
disruption in an area’s verbal continuity and cannibalism results in chaos,
collapse and regression.
The
progress visible to man depends on periodic,
but
limited appearance of new thought;
diverging
somewhat from the presently accepted truth,
and
turning man’s attention in a fresh direction,
but
like a bridge to a place new, with one end still rooted in the place
old.
This
is what is seen to be progress;
the
gradual evolving of things old into improved new versions.
Thus
is a sense of continuity maintained,
for
even when an individual man now & then has a new, unfamiliar thought,
(which
promises benefit),
it
can always be seen as but the inevitable next step from some older well
known one.
But
all of this pertains exclusively to the physical world,
for
it is only there that progress exists;
men
take no specific note of this, and contraire –
inspecifically
deny it constantly by their verbal assertions of cultural progress.
Man’s
physical health improved when he went from blood letting to antibiotics;
from
x-rays to MRI’s,
and
similarly does his mind say that the inner invisible man (the mind)
has
improved as he has gone from paganism to religionism;
from
morality plays to realistic dramas;
from
representative painting to abstract, (later from abstract back to representative);
from disco to punk, corsets to bikinis -- a list without end.
(Inescapably
are all such mentally existing, secondary features of man’s life
an
integral part of his overall physical existence;
failure
to recognize their relative position is what is herein being highlighted
and
is of significance to those desirous of a non confined view of what is
going on.)
Mind’s
middle name is, “new;”
its
purpose for being is to discover the new in the physical realm,
and
invent it in its own -- but it can hardly do so --
except
for the fact that it can do so at a moment’s notice.
The
consciousness in your brain lives via thoughts,
and
it craves fresh food --- but there is always a scarcity;
thus
it chews and re chews the same thoughts over & over,
and
is constructed to tolerate the situation,
but
it is also built with the ability to harmlessly fool itself into professing
that
it
does have fresh thoughts – thoughts that it itself came up with,
and
its almost exclusive form of these “new thoughts” is:
a
rejection of some other person’s previous thoughts
(which
itself was a reaction to someone else’s prior thought, etc).
This
sustains the verbal continuity & stability needed for
civilization
and its child: progress-in-the-physical-world,
but
it does nothing for the mind but run it around in endless circles,
masquerading
as upward moving spirals.
This
is neither good nor bad, here nor there with routine people;
most
humans do not care specifically whether the currently accepted,
“proper
school” of serious music is: Modern, Post-Modern, or Neo-Romantic,
but
the collective mind of man’s passive embrace of its own self-sourced picture
of
a
cultural, spiritual, purely-intellectual progress by way of changing terminologies
does ultimately determine what general menu of thoughts they will have
available to think about.
If
asked to look in himself and consider the matter,
any
sane human would have to confess that every thought
he
ever has is about words someone else has said,
you
do not think about what other people have done,
even
when you believe you do,
you
are actually thinking about the verbal descriptions you hear in your head
regarding
something they may have done,
and
your mental description of their actions was taken from some other person’s
verbal explanation of such actions.
You
do not “think” about some harmful deed done to you by another person,
when
you remember it, your thoughts about it are actually thoughts about the
words that your thoughts use to bring it up from your memory.
Without
words you could not remember anyone’s actions;
you
do not “remember” things that you have physically experienced,
you
remember your mind’s verbal descriptions thereof.
This,
any reasonable person can glimpse for a second,
(then
totally forget), but what is more difficult to see is this
same
situation in place when thoughts think about your past experiences which
occurred solely in thoughts:
here,
thoughts let you shamefully down (bad thoughts!).
In
the mental operations you came from the factory with,
thoughts
fail to make a distinction between thinking about the cut you received
when
mugged last year,
and
the words your thoughts employ to describe the psyche of the mugger
--
not
his physique -- but his psyche,
the
words that fully constitute your consciousness at the moment,
talk
about the inner man of the mugger like a dog;
speculating
on his ancestry; his social and educational background;
his
religion or lack thereof.
You
do not remember, nor think purely in images:
they
may be present
(in
your head you can see the mugger as he stepped from the alley, knife in
hand)
but
always accompanying it will be a verbal commentary about the scene;
if
such is not there, you can have no image of or memory of the event;
(check
it for yourself -- the rest of the world is not going
to).
And
in addition is the fact that your own private, personal
memory-cum-commentary
of your mugging will be verbally described to you
using
descriptions your thoughts cannibalized from other men’s words;
your
thoughts do not know that the mugger was a product of a
lower
class, uneducated life, etc;
the
big boys’ fact is that no one actually knows that mugging is a “bad” thing
to do;
while
life directs some to mug, on a wider scope it also obviously disapproves
thereof as witnessed by the fact that as soon as a group of people start
to become civilized, one of their first acts is to forbid theft and physical
assault,
yet
the fact remains that no human knows, nor
can know
if
any particular thing that occurs in this universe (this reality) is good
or bad,
be
it an action of a man or of an atom or star,
since
we have nothing outside of this reality by which to compare it,
(another
purpose served by thought’s creation of a supernatural power external to
man to which thought can then attribute, “declarations of eternal fact”
which
tries to offer an illusion of there being an objective standard by which
man
might measure things here),
but
for those scattered few,
for
whom only the great realization will do,
nothing
in ordinary men’s thinking sufficeth;
not
the idea that only god knows;
not
the belief that man cannot know,
and
certainly not the notion that some other person may know
and
if I adopt his words, I will know also.
Force
your consciousness to look at the thoughts running through it
(as
unnatural & tricky as this be),
and
see clearly for yourself that the only -- the ONLY things that you
think about -- you --
the astoundingly insightful, damn-near-enlightened creature that you
are –
that
the only things even YOU think about are the words of other (Ugh!)
dull,
insipid, certainly-not-enlightened men.
‘Course,
part of the trickiness is that thoughts will say that they are going through
the
words of other men to discover their errors and thus learn to avoid them,
but
this is easily observed to be untrue (it
almost seems insulting
to
describe the matter to you in any greater detail).
All
you have to do is sincerely look, and you are quickly aware that
all
you and everyone else (‘cept god) think about is
the
words your thoughts have picked up from other men’s thoughts --
--
other men as unknowing as you.
The
great realization only comes when you can find something to think about
that
is NOT the words of other people --
and
it does not matter, which other people -- any other
people.
To
think about their words, pro or con, is to inhale their lack of understanding;
you
cannot be for or against anything that anyone else has ever said
and
ever see what is really going on for yourself.
People like to say that there
is not much in life that a man can
truly count on --
but you can count on that.
Skoal.
