The first step to enlightenment of the mind is:
controlled & specifically-directed: self-abuse.

The next to the last step is the abandonment of such nonsense.

(The step after that is in realizing why such abandonment
should occur.)

Only the brave show mercy: cowards are always outraged;
and only the non courageous feel the need to show off --
...or the stupid, to boast of their intelligence.
(Apply as a cold-pack to your own head.)

Has been said: “Many would be cowards --  if they had the courage” --  which is to note that:
Everyone would still be like they are but satisfied about it,
if they had the sense & guts to stop claiming to be otherwise --
...and believing that they should be when they hear themselves say so.

“I am by temperament,” said an alligator, “Rather brutish. So sue me.
This is the jungle  --  not a faculty tea.”

Every worthy idea instantly produces its critics --
but the reverse is not so.
(Apply this as a hot-pack to your own forehead.)

The “creative thinking” of ordinary men is a continued running in the same old ruts while re-naming the ruts.

By being critics do fleas don elephant suits.
“It sure is roomy in here.”
     “Yeah  --  and meaningless too.”
  “Yeah…..sorta like my mind.”
     “………Yeah.”

In the sense that interests the few:
A man who, knows-what-he-is-doing knows ONLY that.
      (“Hey, what d’ya expect?!”)

Under our laws: imbecility cannot be considered as a barrier
to being a critic.
(“Hell, under anybody’s laws;
that ain’t the way the universe works  --  you jerks!”)

Brief Historical Correlate: The round wheel would have
never been developed had not enough people laughed at
the corners on square ones.
Individual squirts of mental vinegar make the
  collective mental salad go ‘round,
(and give the few, unbelievable heartburn.)

Even if something in life did bug an awake man --  he couldn’t let on,
or it would put him back to sleep.

When a man was insulted in the form of being sarcastically complimented on his ability to always make his explanations,
“fit the facts --  regardless,”  he said:
“There is no, ‘regardless';
the facts of all intangible situations will always fit whatever
explanation one cares to offer,
since both the facts and the explanations have the same source,
and are, operationally  --  one and the same.
Hence my friend, the difficulty of anything, the product of man’s mind,
being adequately explained thereby.
All in all, I say to you, dear hearts  --   don’t sweat it!
Go ahead and grab whatever trolley comes along first;
they all go to the same destination.”

Few prisoners care to hear a prophet not as pissed as they are.
(“Hey I don’t wanna be led outta here by anybody not still
in here!" is da name of dat toon.)

What is found annoying about the independent minded is that they want nothing from anybody…........................................and all of the anybodys find this irritating!

One way to tell that you are still not properly focused & awake is that the voices you hear continue to marvel at  just how
focused & awake you have become.
“Man!  What a guy I am!”  is just an exaggerated extension of everyone's: “Let-me-tell-you-the-kind-of-guy-I-am” tune.

(Another way to determine that the deal is still not settled
is that you continue to search for just the right metaphor to explain what the deal is.)

Taking note of some thing-or-the-other, one man said:
”Most of the time this thing is not a, thinking-machine --
but rather an  -- echo-chamber.”

No matter what is being discussed,
prisoners always think it is them being talked about.
(Figure how this applies to  those
two different cell blocks in your mind.)

Whenever one man would be caught operating at less than
full capacity, he would commonly respond: “Yes,
but while you are picking on me for this minor misstep
for all you know I could be dying of cancer,
or some other horrible illness,”  and when asked if he was,
he would say no, but would insist that that was irrelevant,
the point was that he could have been.

(His twin brother claims to have learned a great metaphysical lesson from this...........................although no one is quite sure what it is?!

[Prison sure is a noisy place….......case you hadn’t noticed].)

Remember, (least you over-credit them):
All thoughts are always -- ante -- something or the other;
always: after-de-fact-o.

It’s okay to be forever chasing buses --  as long as they are going where you think you want to go  --
and as long as you understand that: (1): They’re going nowhere,
and, (2): You can’t ever catch them anyway.

Thoughts: The things that are always --  after-de-fact-o.

“Here is a short cut to forcing yourself out of the daze:
Fake a different temperament than the one you naturally have.”
      “But I can’t do that!"
”Well  --   pretend to.”

Here is what one man says he has finally had to admit is the truth about what he’s been trying to do: “I don’t really want to be in a permanently awakened state,
I just want to stop being upset when I catch myself in  the sleeping one.”

The big-time, never-fail, new-york-fer-sure-way to know that
you are still asleep is if you still ever have the urge to respond to anything said to you, or about you.

To his surviving kin, one man left this message: “Burn the past.”

Whenever one politician would receive an abusive letter from a constituent he would write back saying: “Dear Sir:
I am sure you would want to know that some idiot is sending out mail and signing your name to it,”
and when a certain man heard of this tactic,
he pondered it in relation to the messages that are sent to his mind,
and mused:
”In my case, some idiot using my name is accepting them.”

The tricky part of hearing actually useful words-of-wisdom is that
the brain always says: “How insane!”

(And ponder this: if the way out of your present condition is insane,
what should that tell you about the condition you’re trying to get out of?!
"Yeah!  Mister brain doesn’t wanna think about that --  does he!")

If there was a Universal Stupid Competition,
who should be found the winner:
those who won’t consider the obvious,
                         or those who do?

(And just in case: Don’t forget to de-magnetize your tap shoes.)

And one man offers this advice:
”Avoid crazed people crammed into tight places,
and a sweating mind filled with mad voices.”

Another way to bring yourself out of the coma
is to discover how to be a rugged individualist  --   without talking.

And lastly, keep pondering the fact that:
to a liberated mind
almost anything that an ordinary person ever says
makes them sound like a fool.

P.S., The father quoted in yesterday's News, late last night said to his son:
"I trust you understand that there IS no   --  pre-verbal I  --
but that does not make the adventure any less exhilarating, or rewarding."
