                  CLIP, CLOP:
         "TOSS THE COWS A SOP"
               _____________

Life walks through man on two legs;
manifested as: liberal & conservative; reform & orthodox;
courteous & crude; young & old.

The first in the above duos is made to favor change, and the new,
and the second set forth as defenders of the status quo and tradition.
In no species but man does the first exist;
no other creature has part of its population continually engaged in experimentation, and the promotion of new ways to live;
the one word that describes the second groups supra is: habit:
beings whose lives consist solely of behavior dictated by instinct.
In the long haul, (as is obvious), life pursues paths, tried & true,
and from the frontal lobes down men live such lives;
all organs do their specific job, and attempt nothing else.
What physical changes occur in man are gradual,
and constructively imperceptible:
if the heart believes there may be a more efficient way to pump blood,
it approaches the possibility of altering its operations most cautiously,
and will try out same,
slowly by small degrees over a long period of time.

But never does it consider that one of the options for change would be
to stop pumping blood altogether, and take up the digestion of food.
Neither it nor any other somatic entity ever makes moves toward change in their operations that could be considered radical, or drastic.
Such would be, from any knowledgeable view --  suicidal.

But in the brain’s world of words & ideas,
the drive for change is half the name-of-the-game,
and only an ordinary, cursory & useless glance at the mind
would cause a person to picture consciousness as being
a pump for ideas  --  which are as fungible as are blood cells.
(Remind yourself that as always, what is being referred to in these  reports is not about matters of a physical nature, but of those which have no tangible existence, and are solely products of man’s mind.)

The life of this world depends on the breath of change,
but men do not normally look at the arena of ideas in this fashion;
what each ordinary  man sees from his individual, subjective view
is a constant struggle between ideas which his mind says are true, correct & proper, and those which his thoughts declare to be
lies, errors & improprieties,
but his mental processes never grasp the salient fact that without this apparent, constant confrontation between what mentally IS,
and what, COULD BE  --
there would be no sustainable life OF the mind,
(concerning non-physical matters not directly pertinent to survival).

But even in this more relaxed area of the mind, (as opposed to
the strict regimentation of life-in-the-liver),

the constant change necessary for its health & survival
does not occur instantly, or abruptly,
but takes place via the endless wrestling match & tug-of-war
between the two legs on which life strides through the life of man.
The changes come about from the never ending pushing-&-pulling
that goes on in all areas of man’s mentally based, second reality,
from religion to politics; from art to etiquette,
changes whose media are groups identified & named by this same mind as: liberal & conservative: reform & orthodox; young & old, et al.
These confrontational divisions are commonly pronounced to be manifestations of social, or economic conditions,
or of educational backgrounds,
but the only conditions in play here are the conditions of instinct;
but change --  even talk of change --  being such a foreign concept
to all forms of observable life,
(including man, from consciousness down),
the permanent situation is never seen directly for what it is:
a permanent situation --
but rather is viewed by ordinary minds as a temporary state of affairs,
a, struggle-for-the-truth
which will presently bear fruit, and come to an end,
(with no one seeming to notice that this “temporary state-of-affairs”
has been going on uninterrupted for the length of recorded history.)

This struggle between the forcibly drafted teams of:
liberal vs. conservative; reformer vs. the orthodox,
and the young vs. their elders
is not THE, "game"  --  but is the field upon which the game is played.
The game is not ever going to reach a resolved conclusion;
the aim of the game is not to come to an end,
but rather --  just the opposite.
The purpose of the game is not for one of the two teams to win,
but for their endless struggle to keep the game forever alive.

Inside your own head is such a game being played,
and do such opposing factions continually confront one another.
There are thoughts that are run onto your mental playing field
from the unknown sidelines which are liberal, youngish,
and all in favor of something new; of doing things differently,
but from the opposing bench are sent on thoughts that are
interested only in protecting the yardage already gained;
the conservative, safety-minded, tradition-bound team
is there to defend the status quo and the history that they believe
is responsible therefor,
and neither team is “right,” and the other wrong;
they must both be constantly on the field for the game to go on;
do you want the game to stop in your head  --  in your life?!
Do you want the consciousness of a warthog?!
(Perhaps some of you bricklayers & drummers should pass on this question.)
Those thoughts which automatically appear in your head,
and whose presence you passively accept as constituting your
“mind,” and consciousness
are programmed to forever be limited to sets of opposing teams,
(as described), along with a natural attraction to external manifestations thereof, (other minds’ versions of the game).

This is how the thoughts that make up the mind operate,
survive, and thrive;
by life walking through man, first one leg down, (young, liberal reformer),
then replaced by the other leg: older, orthodox conservative;
one, two;
one, two;
one, two;
the mind’s view is normally of two.                       But there is a third.
