MORE REGARDING LIFE SAYING TO YOUR MIND:
“HEY, LOOK OVER HERE AT THIS!”
WITHOUT IT EVER POINTING OUT TO YOU THAT
WHAT IT IS ACTUALLY POINTING TO WHEN IT SAYS THAT
                                      IS YOUR MIND.

If you do not come to the personal realization of the above, not only will you stay forever confused-about,
and annoyed-with other people,
(which is too pedestrian to be of note),
but you will, (more importantly), have a similar attitude toward what seems, (to cow eyes), to be yourself.
A sufficiently interested man can be led to see that
when ordinary men talk of such matters as politics,
sports, religion, their philosophy-of-life,
they are talking about nothing but their own thinking,
(realizing this frees a person from the first two floors
of that invisible prison),
but what is much more difficult --
-- within spitting distance of Impossibleville, in fact  --
is to see that the same is true concerning the words you privately hear in your head
coming from your own mind.

It is one thing to be able to recognize that when someone is ranting on about how the country’s economy will never reach its full potential until we get a Fed chairman who is not part of the Eastern Establishment,
and elect congressmen who are more interested in the people’s welfare than they are their own appearances on Sunday morning talk shows, (or that for the Mets to become a constant contender they have got to get a pitching staff more concerned about winning than they are about their salaries),
that he possesses not a trace of personal understanding, nor objective basis for the comments, and in fact is just commenting on his own mental comments.
Nothing condemnable is going on --
everything normal is.
He  --  same as everyone else --
(save BeMer mechanics, and cardiologists),
simply doesn’t know what he is talking about.
He speaks not actually about politics, or sports,
(or anything else outside his own head),
but about the thoughts IN his head ABOUT politics,
or sports.
But it is quite another challenge to realize
that the thoughts in your own head about all
non-physical matters are of the same ilk.

Ordinary men believe that their thoughts on a  subject are correct, and men with opposing ideas are wrong,
while those trying to achieve-the-realization
reach a level whereat their view is that
their thoughts on a matter are real,
and ordinary men’s, imaginary.
When this perspective initially hits them,
it seems well founded, since they are one of the few
who are sincerely trying to gain an
objective understanding of what is going on
while everyone else simply wants to have their
subjective theories about what’s going on
momentarily triumph over any opposing ones.
At first this feels correct --  but it is in error;
any thoughts in your mind regarding the non-material
features of human existence are no more substantial
than anyone else’s.
It is not the thinkers that are the problem,
but the very essence OF thinking.
This is indeed perhaps the trickiest thing for
the human eye to ever see.
Many get stalled here  --  but wait!  -- cheer up! --
it gets worse!

The greatest damage, (in the sense of
wasting-energy), suffered by the few is this:
taking the thoughts you hear in your head about YOU -
as though they mean something.
Your so-called “mind” does not talk to you about YOU – it talks about itself --   that is all that it can do.
And it has no more objective, personal understanding of what makes it work than it does about what causes
economic fluctuations, or makes a winning team.

But while the mind will be confronted with opposing views when it publicly expresses its ideas about religion,
The Theatre, or The Lakers,
it receives no such  resistance as it contemplates, and comments on itself, and is always presented in the guise of you thinking about yourself.
Not realizing this is man’s normal state,
and also the primo example of being, unenlightened.
You do not “think-about-yourself” --
even your MIND doesn’t think about YOU --
your mind thinks about itself,
and all comments it makes apparently about you,
are always about it.
The mind can do nothing else,
and to suddenly see this for yourself
is like being suddenly set free….or having a mechanic
tell you that it was only a fouled plug.

Here is what you can practically do:
determine to remind yourself for the rest of today,
that every identifiable matter that your mind grabs hold of is actually your mind grabbing itself;
literally repeat this to yourself as you observe the
yard-dog-of-your-mind latching on to the bumper of some passing thought-vehicle
while pretending that it is thinking about the thing
it is chewing on when the discoverable truth is that it is merely chewing on itself --  as always.

Whenever the mind in your head says:
”I’m thinking about - this matter” --
it is really thinking about thinking --
in its own crude way it is attempting to understand what is going on  --  achieve Enlightenment! --
but ordinary minds never quite get over that edge,
over the naturally attractive mental place whereat the mind is still able to pretend that it is studying life
while looking outward --
while looking away from itself.

That’s the bad news --  but that’s okay
because now you have the good news -- that is -
you know what the bad news is, and what to do about it.

You can’t ask for more than that,
(unless you do expect to receive a free Porsche every year just for waking up.)
