                       THE BINARY ILLUSION

Everyone feels they consist of two parts;
to most people the division is: mind & body;
to the religious it is the schism separating their
spiritual, and secular sides,
and to others it is simply a preference they have that
they be perceived to be a specific type of person
as opposed to its alternative,

(to appear sophisticated rather than lowbrow;
knowledgeable --  not ignorant),
but the neural instincts of the few who long for
the understanding drives their view of this
binary sensation into a singular configuration.

                      THE BIG EXPLANATION

”I wasn’t MYSELF when I thought/said/did that!”
                    Who then exactly WERE you?!

All men, when they speak of themselves,
in so doing, reinforce the feeling that they are
two entities;

with all confessions, self condemnations & excuse moi's
the speaker in essence is proclaiming that he is not
the same person who did the deed,
or said the words to which he now refers.

A man says:
“I am as shocked as anyone by what happened;

I do not know why I hit my wife;
it is not at all like me,” and by these words
he is stating that he --
--  the person making the present statement --
is clearly not the same person who struck the blow,
and his act of being able to so discuss it
is obvious proof of the fact.

Every time a person says, (and thinks):
”I am this sort of person,” or “I am that type of person,” they unwittingly shore up the foundation
of the sensation that they --  and everyone else
who accepts their explanations --
consist of two distinct constituents:
one, (the present thinker/speaker),
who is intelligent, upstanding and all-around, acceptable,

and another part of himself, (his personality traits,  characteristics, weaknesses, & idiosyncrasies),
which are not currently manifest,

simultaneous with the part of him now speaking,
and which is a part of him, commonly in need of being explained --  if not excused,
and in all such instances of this quite familiar, everyday verbalization, everyone understands that the speaker is not saying that he was physically another person when he did the deed about which  he now speaks.

No, he is making the case that something inside of him that is not his normal “him” took temporary control of his mind/feelings/personality and body;
a momentary mood; an irrepressible urge,
but something quite obviously distinct and entirely separate from the “him” now talking about the affair as plainly witnessed by the fact that he is so talking about it in a clinical, if not confessional manner.

     The proof of man’s binary nature seems to be in the fact that
                        he can make verbal note thereof.

All of this is an ongoing, natural facet of
the life of man.
What is not so natural, or simple is how this appears,
and wants to be played out in those whose lives
revolve around the desire to,
solve-the-case, and

                           get-the-understanding.

In these people it is, and has for eternity been,
a much more specific, personal interpretation of this otherwise commonplace sensation.
Their neural instincts present to them this situation in terms of it being:
two manifestations of consciousness;
the presence of two different -- possibilities-of-mind.

When such people first hear of the understanding
their immediate response is:  “YES!! --  That's it!
That is plainly what has been bothering me,
and what I have been longing for all of this time --

but never knew what it was until now.
YES!, by gawd! --  Yes, for sure!”

For such people this is indeed a most grand,
and delicious moment, and it instantly --  but unnoticed,  establishes the unquestioned acceptance that
the state of mind present when the discovery was made
is the desirable state of mind,

and  that any quality of mind or consciousness
not afterwards apparently a part thereof

is clearly undesirable.

Thus is firmly planted the unquestioned, and seemingly well-founded belief that man has an --ordinary-mind,
but also potentially, a most UN-ordinary one.

At various times, and diverse places, cognomenated: sleeping mind & awakened mind:
everyday mind & buddha mind,
clouded mind & enlightened mind, et al.,
but there is in them all, a common notation: that man, based on what feels to be,
undeniable personal experience,

has available to him  --  two totally different minds.

No matter what terms the participants may employ, everyone who seeks the understanding
believes that it can only be,
learned/seen/discovered & realized-by
that
”better” of their two minds,
the one that first became aware of there being a,
great understanding --
what else could a person be expected to think?!

Based on the normal operations of human mind,
this view is inescapable;

without assuming same, a person with the hunger
could never even get started in their search.

Most of the few who become in some way,
involved in this this-kind-of-activity
never finally realize the flaw in this view,

and get free there from, and move beyond.

  It is a singularly captious inner snare.

If, at this very moment you ask yourself:
”Am I not at certain times, undeniably more conscious, alert & understanding than I am at others?!
Some times is not my mental state
little more than one of being asleep with my eyes
yet open?!
Am I not some times, stupid beyond belief,
while at others, astonishingly insightful?!”
and the answer in your mind is --  “Yes.” --
--  unconditionally, and undoubtedly – “Yes.”
--  what more is there to say about it?!

                                  Lots more.

(Actually, very little more,
 this whole affair in fact is so simple as to be almost embarrassing!
[‘s good thing you're human after all,
and thus not given to such confessional-emotions].)

The truth of this entire matter can accurately
be said in 2 seconds,
though a personally meaningful realization thereof
can take decades.

Five words says it all, yet your present thinking
will predictably be constructively deaf to its
significance and reality:

                     You only have one mind.

These 18 letters are the entirety of the understanding --  there is nothing beyond this;
these 5 words are the solution-of-the-case --
there is nothing to look for after them.

Everything native to the mind’s operations
unequivocally rejects this,

and to its normal way of thinking,
so too does a life time of experience;
but just start constantly repeating to yourself
the 5 words in a tone of inquiry:
”I have only one mind.” --  ?!?!?!?!

 --  say it over and over again:
day & night;
indoors, or out:
when excited, or depressed;
when clumsy or agile,
and especially when you’re feeling that
the mind you’re in is: stupid, asleep, and somehow --    “not the real you”

      --  who else is in you but you?!

You know quite well that there is only
one of you physically;

there is no doubt that you have only one body --
--  but that you have more than one MIND?!?! --
       --  a truly astounding notion!
What else can you call it?! --
it is: astounding, unbelievable, incomprehensible, inconceivable --  impossible!

And yet such is accepted as personal, daily reality
by the other six billion people on this planet.

It certainly seems --  feels otherwise,
particularly to those with the hunger,
but ask yourself:
“How can I have more than one mind?” -
      --  you can’t  --  you don’t --

and the investigation of this natural mental conviction
that tells you that you do,

is the key to unlocking the-mystery.

Solve the case, and at that exact instant
you will see: “I only have one mind” --
and you will be much amused over having so long been blind to that simple  --   liberating fact.
