                              THE DEAL

Everybody wants to make-the-deal,
but few can figure out the price to be paid;
everybody wants to be part OF the deal,
(but don’t want their real names used.)

              When you don’t know about the deal,
                   you imagine it to be a BIG deal.

Everybody’s heard of the deal
but few ever see it go down.

         Wheelin’ and dealin’,
         squallin’ and squealin’;
         that’s the noise in front of your house.
       "Hey, keep that dog where he belongs.”
       (An individualistically minded canine
         in an ant colony, doesn’t belong.)

The deal can only go down,
when you’re safe and sound;
the deal can only go down,
when “YOU’RE” not around.
                           The deal can only be done,
                           when “you’re” no more than one.

There is the ant hill deal,
and the single malt deal;
         it takes a village to wound --  one eye/I to heal.

“Off-shore” deals are the best --
‘cause there’s always the chance you may drown.
The deal is dreamed-of by the living --  but realized by the recently-departed.

     If you’re still in town --  the deal won’t go down.

Everybody’s uncle knows this, “real great deal”;
everyone has a buddha for an uncle.
To profit from the deal you have to make your own deal.

    The history of deal-making is difficult to interpret;
                 profit is such a  --   personal matter.

                             Hunger’s the ship,
                             eating’s the keel,
                             nothing’s as filling as
                                doing-the-deal.

The deal you know about is not THE deal.
The real deal is strictly  --  “hush-hush.”
         (No one ever has to be cautioned to:
                 “Keep it to yourself.”)

            The deal is the only known transaction
                 involving fewer than two parties.

To do-the-deal you gotta -- get-in-on-the-ground-floor;
the deal’s drawn up -- up stairs,
           but brought to a boil  --  down in the oven.

           Nothing makes you feel
                   good as
               doin’ THE DEAL.

Everybody’s aware of the deal,
but no one knows what to call it.

                   Listen for whom the bell may peal,
                  only a few can hear THE REAL DEAL.

While the rest of the world is “doing business,”
the few are doing-the-deal.
(The twain you might think, would never meet,
truth is  --   it’s all the same.
…wherever you are  -- there’s the deal;
you can’t go where it’s not,
all you can do is try not to recognize it.)

                   Ant colonies are blind;
                   only individuals can --  see-the-deal.

For the deal to show a profit,
you must have no thoughts of such.
Working out the actual mechanics of the transaction
is all the return you could ever ask for.

                 The deal can’t be done wrong:
            only those who’ve yet to do-the-deal
             think that it can be done incorrectly.

What a lay out --  what a meal,
you never completely
consume the deal.

The difficulty in first seeing the deal
is due to it having no beginning,
and having no end.
If you are in-the-deal
you are forever in the middle of the deal.

                        What a road  --   what a path;
                           the deal goes on forever.

If you look some where for the deal,
you don’t find it,
but if you do not look some where for it,
you will also never find it,
so it’s pretty clear then --  what is required.
                       ”Down on State Street,
                               corner of Beale,
                               right near my heart they're
                                         doing-the-deal.”

You can’t sell the deal, and you certainly can’t buy it;
you can’t even GIVE the deal away.
                      Boomerangs For The Blind.
                      Self-Performed Rim-Jobs,
                      and men in tacky vehicles stopping to
                      ask themselves for directions.

Many who complete the deal
then hide it away in mirrors…..there is no other place!
…see, the problem is:
                        The deal will never congeal.

If you try to preserve the deal --  you lose the deal --   that’s the deal's whole purpose --
to combat dry rot.

  Grease the walls of your room --
  it’ll attract Deal Slugs --  harbingers of Flies to come.

    The deal soars on wings of nothingness,
    thus those who shout: “There it goes.” --  see it not.
    Hint: The deal shuns those who pretend;
    the only deal is the REAL deal --
    --  why do you think it’s called  “the deal"?!

The deal was never done yesterday,
and will never be done tomorrow;
it’s not really possible to say WHEN it is done.
         By the time ANYONE says:
        “Oh, look -  it was just done” --  they’re way too late.

You can’t do-the-deal if you’re angry,
and you can’t do-the-deal if you’re scared;
you can’t do-the-deal if you’re right handed,
and you can’t do it if you’re left,
and while you try to figure out what this means,
the train leaves you on the platform,
over & over again.

     Wave bye-bye,
       there goes your reflection down the track again.”

Time, tide, and the deal wait for no man.
The deal never changes;
the deal never moves,
the illusion of such
is caused by the motion of mind.
                          ”Be still, McNeal,
                            to do-the-deal.”

You can’t discuss the deal,
and you surely can’t debate it;
as soon as an argumentative word is said --
                       --  “The Deal’s Off!”

                  Life in the street can be lived with zeal,
                 without confusing The Biz for The Deal.

You can’t do-the-deal while talking about yourself;
you can’t do-the-deal while talking about anyone else,
you can’t do-the-deal while even thinking about yourself, and just based on these facts,
don't you begin to have just a teensy little suspicion as to what the deal IS?!

    The liver knows it’s not the thalamus,
    and a menu chef knows not to eat a cookbook.
    The deal is in you, and you are always in its midst --
             --   so why do you look else where?!

                           Put a fork in it,
          and put yourself out of your
                imaginary misery.

Mind IS the deal --  and you are more than mind --
      …….what “more”?   --   only the deal knows.

For those with a real interest in solving-the-case,
and getting  the understanding,
there is within these stories, practical things to do;
while you may find them entertaining,
there is more to them than that…..if you’re interested.

                              THE LOOKOUT

One explorer had a lookout who did his job with
great skill ---  except when they would rest;
then the lookout would engage in introspection --
becoming a look IN – looking in at himself;
an effort at which he was alarmingly inept,
and more than that:
in spite of his supreme alertness when
surveying conditions and activities outside himself,
he seemed completely unaware of those
inside himself, specifically:
his abject failure at self analysis.

                                        *

         Wherever someone points --  look the other way
      (“Someone” includes the thoughts in your own head).

       Everyone’s head tries to look at itself --  don’t fight it.

           Dust can’t be eradicated --  only moved around.

                        THE MECHANIC

One man had a mechanic who did good work,
and was quite serious,
but when there was nothing for him to do,
he clowned around --  but something curious:
at those times, he wasn’t aware of him acting the fool,
and considered himself to be as serious as usual.

It seemed that when he had no work to do,
            he lost all conception of himself.

                            THE PATIENT

There was once a doctor who was involved in an
unusual situation;
he had a patient who was never ill except when
the doctor was present,
(and it gets stranger still):
the patient was never aware he was ill, and in fact
did not even know that he was being attended to
by a doctor   --
but the doctor was fully aware of the situation
exactly as just described.

How could such a thing go on?
(and must you be told outright, WHERE it goes on?!)

                THE COMPANY

There was once a company whose specialization was Analysation, an activity at which they excelled.
One day the C.E.O. decided it would be beneficial for
the company to analyze its own operations,
and directed the appropriate people to start work thereon.
It became a ongoing activity,
but it turned out that the company could not
analyze itself --
it also turned out that
no one in the company ever realized this.

         Thus all involved continued to work on the project
                                       just as though
                it was actually accomplishing something.

            THE GREAT INEVITABLE

There is a Great Inevitable under which all men live;
everyone is aware it is there,
and most think it is death  --  but they wrong,
and they are wrong because --
The Great Inevitable WANTS them to be wrong.

Discover for yourself what The Great Inevitable is,
and why it skews men’s conception of it,
and you have --  Made The Great Discovery --  AND,
rendered The Great Inevitable  --   IRRELEVANT!

                                       *

Only ordinary people with no interest in
the understanding
will think of themselves as being either
right handed, or left handed; either tall or short;
either deserving or condemnable.
Only the blind judge their appearance,
only the deaf, their singing talent,
and only the imbecilic make note of their intelligence.

By virtue of individual ants’ inner oblivion
does the colony think,
and by your confirming your right handedness,
does your understanding remain but
a blur of a cow face in a faceless herd.

You cannot repeat what your thoughts say that you are
 without you be prepared to remain as you are;
hippos do not realize it, but every time one introduces himself as, “a  hippo, to be sure” --  he has re-sealed his
internment in hippo-dome. (Of course you can try to dismiss this by saying how dumb hippos are anyway,
but then you miss the point.

A man on the search for the understanding,
who continues to entertain seriously
what is said about him in his own head
continues to shoot himself in the foot
even while insisting that he wants to run.
There is no grosser example of
self-supported misdirection than
staying entangled in this most common,
and unexceptional of
ordinary mortal affairs.

Only the lost will say that they are lost or not,
and by so saying, insure their continued lostness.

If you really want to find the way --  don’t be an idiot –
just --  shut up!
                         ….and leave it at that.

                                       J

p.s. The solution of the case is this: the Investigator cannot see the suspect……much less talk to him….
in fact  --   he can’t even think about him.
